Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) pose a significant threat to Minnesota’s lakes and rivers, heavily impacting local residents. Lake Associations statewide spend millions annually to manage nuisance weeds and invasive species. Aquatic management is an evolving science, and Minnesota benefits from research by the Minnesota Aquatic Invasive Species Center and the University of Minnesota’s facilities. In an informative webinar hosted by Minnesota Lakes and Rivers on July 16, 2024, experts shared successful AIS management strategies and valuable insights into setting achievable goals. Speakers included Keegan Lund, an experienced biologist in aquatic and terrestrial plant management, and Michael Verhoeven, an ecologist from the University of Minnesota focusing on climate impacts on fisheries and the dynamics between invasive and native species.
