Have you ever been inspired to give to an organization because they were offering a 1:1 or 2:1 match for your gift? It’s a great feeling. Now MLR donors can do that every day with a service called Double the Donation. I wanted to take a moment to explain this new employer matching software MLR is using so you know what, where, when, why, and how it works.
What is Double the Donation?
Double the Donation is a software company that has been around since 2011, it was started so that no donor misses out on potential match for their gift and no nonprofit has to pass on extra funding that could’ve been theirs. It connects nonprofit donors like you with their employer or past employer’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) program, making it easy to find a match and double or even triple your gift. Since then, they have helped nonprofits to fundraise an extra $1 billion from thousands of companies.
Where can I find it?
This software is located on our website under the “Support MLR” tab and “Employer Matching” dropdown. Once you click on this page, you can search your current or past employer to see if they match donations or even hours spent volunteering (they would assign a cash value for each hour and then donate that to MLR). For example, if you are a Lake Steward Evaluator, your time spent evaluating properties could actually help us fundraise with a few clicks.
When can I find an employer match?
Anytime! In under two minutes you can find out details about your company’s policies like whether they match gifts from retired employees, what their match limit is, and whether or not they will provide a cash match for volunteer hours.
Why should I do this?
For small organizations like MLR, an extra $100 or $250 coming in each week can make a huge difference. If a dozen members took advantage of this opportunity, MLR could receive thousands of dollars in new funding to support Lake Steward, the Stop Starry Stonewort Program, our efforts in the Boundary Waters, or our other wonderful programs. Employer matching amplifies your impact and gives us more resources to protect Minnesota’s lake and river heritage for current and future generations.
